Preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges

We begin every client relationship with a problem-solving conversation with our director.

About Us

The Academic Institute, Inc. (TAI) was founded in Bellevue, WA in 1980 by Sherrill O’Shaughnessy-Alexander. As a former high school teacher, Sherrill saw the need for an individualized approach tailored to the unique needs and abilities of every student.

TAI started as a tutoring agency and grew rapidly into the full-service educational consulting company it is today. We are always adding to our extensive offerings and exploring new territory to meet the demands of our clients.  Every new step that we take is centered around our strong foundational mission.

Mission Statement

At TAI, it is our mission to prepare students for success in college and their lives beyond by helping them cultivate:

· A sense of capability

· Determination

· Resilience

· Self-advocacy

· A love of learning

We believe that each student is unique, gifted and talented.

We encourage our students to dream of their futures and guide them to create paths to make those dreams come true.

The following students are successful at our school:

· Traditional students seeking more interaction with instructors

· Discouraged and frustrated students who have higher academic potential than their test scores show

· Students with learning disabilities or attention deficit disorder (ADD)

· Students whose academic lives have been impacted by stressful life experiences

· Late bloomers looking to improve their learning skills and grades for college
