“Inspiring students to achieve their potential.” |

Part Public School and Part TAI |

Accredited Dual-Enrollment school for students in grades 8-12
Special features include: * rigorous academic expectations complemented by attention to unique learning styles * coaching and mentoring teaching styles * college accepted accommodations for students who qualify * combining an individualized approach to curriculum and the opportunity to practice independent learning in a small community; class sizes are no larger than six students
The dual-enrollment concept allows students to combine the best of their public schools with a vast offering of services and programs from the intimate, customized private TAI school.
The current educational trend is that more and more students are in need of college preparatory transitional environments and individualized, custom designed learning opportunities. TAI continues to work to meet the needs of exactly these kinds of students.
Our model provides students the opportunity to develop their skills in the way best suited to each of them; the students also develop the independent study skills necessary for success in college. Initially, the teacher trains the students how to function on their own when they have a question; they will find other familiar work to concentrate on until the teacher can return to answer their specific questions. The teacher moves around the classroom working with one student after another. Students are guided to work on their own and to remain productive while the teacher works with other students. This is initially frustrating because most students do not have these skills. As we foster independent learning, students become proud of their college learning skills. This works because rigorous academic expectations are complimented by attention to each student’s learning needs and learning styles.
The theme of our classrooms is interaction, conversing with the teacher in a Socratic approach to learning. Students love the opportunity to engage with the teacher. We know that learning is enhanced by a positive, enthusiastic response from a teacher who cares.
The enthusiasm that our inspired and inspiring staff brings to our classrooms demonstrates our belief that there is no learning without excitement. It is an ongoing balancing act for our instructors to create these stimulating conversations for their variety of learners and still hold these students to rigorous academic expectations. |

VIRTUAL LABSThe Academic Institute offers laboratory days on Wednesdays for students enrolled in a science class. See the updated calendar for dates. We have chosen to utilize online and software programs. TAI will provide an instructor to coordinate the assignments and lab work done by computer at home by students. The instructor will enhance the software materials with review, discussion, and anecdotes. Students will be required to write and submit lab reports. The labs are integrated and interdisciplinary. They will be selected to include the Integrated Science, Biology, and Conceptual Physics curriculums as well as the chemistry curriculum. To participate students must enroll and purchase one of the following labs: CHEMISTRY http://modelscience.com/ - this will lead to the tab: On-Line Order for immediate secure registration and downloading of software. If any difficulties arise please contact the vender directly. The cost of the program is $24.95.
