Distance Learning

Text Box: SPECIAL FEATURES:

LOCATION
Distance learning can be provided at any location outside of Bellevue, WA.  Locations currently include Seattle, WA, Woodinville, WA, Tucson , AZ, and Santa Barbara, CA.
New locations are always an option.

CURRICULUM
See a list of classes offered by our Full-Time school or ask us to design a unique class for you.
We provide a semester credit plan that incorporates five months worth of curriculum (about 75 hours of work and instruction). Students have the option of completing this in five months or at their own pace as long as the requirements of the credit plan are completed.
Compositions and tests are corrected in our office by our department heads, then returned to the student and his/her academic coach to discuss and replace the essay or retake the test and average the two grades.

CUSTOMIZED ACADEMIC COACHING
Select a local tutor that you have had good results with or ask us to assist you in hiring a coach.

TAI IS AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL AND IS NCAA AND STATE APPROVED.

Achieve credits toward graduation in a flexible model

All of our classes are offered in our seven room school located in Bellevue, but you may also elect to take a semester class off-site. At TAI, we refer to this model as Distance Learning.

All distance learning courses are:

· Approved by the Washington State Board of Education since 1986.

· Accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools since 1990.

· Approved by NCAA Clearinghouse, which allows students to participate in NCAA college sports programs while enrolled in distance learning courses.

The Coursework

We offer distance learning courses for most college preparatory classes offered in local high schools. Courses may be designed at the remedial, intermediate or advanced honors levels. Advanced Placement classes are also available, as are a variety of electives.

For our distance learning students, TAI provides:

· Personal guidance

· A credit plan with course requirements

· A set curriculum

· Tests and/or essay topics

· Detailed corrections of all tests and essays

· Support from an optional tutor

· Accredited transcript

Our curriculum is designed for a standard five-month semester. However, students are encouraged to work at a pace that is most appropriate for successful learning. Students often find that they complete a semester credit in two months.

Instruction Methods

Though the curriculum, accreditation, and grading are coordinated by TAI, we require that students be guided by a tutor throughout their coursework.

Parents may choose to use a tutor from TAI, a tutor that has previously demonstrated success working with their student, or they may find a tutor by advertising locally. We offer optional support for the search and selection process, but compensation and schedules are to be determined between the parent and the tutor.

The role of the tutor is to provide one-on-one motivation and inspiration to the student. They are expected to communicate with the TAI director regularly to review, revise or update the credit plan.

Quality Control

In order to ensure consistency and objectivity in the evaluation of our distance learning credits, TAI has historically used a curriculum specialist to correct all essays and chapter tests. This practice not only ensures a high and regularized level of quality control, but it frees the instructors to focus on individualized and supportive instruction.

“Students work at a pace that is most appropriate

to successful learning.”

VIRTUAL LABS

The Academic Institute offers laboratory days on Wednesdays for students enrolled in a science class.  See the updated calendar for dates.  We have chosen to utilize online and software programs.

TAI will provide an instructor to coordinate the assignments and lab work done by computer at home by students.  The instructor will enhance the software materials with review, discussion, and anecdotes.  Students will be required to write and submit lab reports.

The labs are integrated and interdisciplinary.  They will be selected to include the Integrated Science, Biology, and Conceptual Physics curriculums as well as the chemistry curriculum.

To participate students must enroll and purchase one of the following labs:
